Second post in less than a week.. impressive no? LOL Sadly this will be the last post for at least 2 weeks because finals are starting as of tomorrow. This set of finals is different from all others because I suppose they are my last. This makes them not only hard to study for (I'm ready to be done!! ARGH!!!) but they also seem scarier (they want me to know how much stuff?) Compiling all the info is inches of stuff and super super intimidates me. On the other side of them lays the most awesome Christmas vacation yet before clinicals start. A trip to Houston, HOME!! YAY!!! and then some time in florida before the big start. And all of this is IF I pass these darn finals... Suppose I better get off here and start studying. Wish me luck, and lots of caffeine :P Miss you guys!!!

    Happy 1 year..
So for some reason I decided to check this in between class breaks and I noticed it has been exactly one year since my last post. Time goes so fast in retrospect! It's Nov 23, I have 20 days and 7 hrs until I am flying on a plane out of Grenada for the last time. So hard to believe my time in Grenada is almost over and it's time to start real life back in North America. I have decided to do my clinical year in Florida as a good segway back into a first world country. Gainesville is a college town so should feel pretty similar to what I'm used to and the warm weather can't hurt ;) LOL my last post was about getting up early and essentially putting myself together like adults do before they go to work. I have to say I have been doing pretty well with that so next goal is making enough time to get some cardio and flexibility work in to lose some of this vet school inactivity. So much has changed in one year rather then trying to squish it all into one post I'll try and break it into several entries as things come to mind... Being as I'm still in class will try and post a bit later -back to learning about lambs!

    Good Morning Grenada!
Today was a first in a long time -I actually got out of bed early. I don't think I ever give up sleep to give myself time in the morning to get ready and have some time for myself, I'm always up so late studying that my ZZZzz's are super precious. I'm forever doing the 10minute roll out of bed, run to class. I cannot believe what I have been missing!!!
I washed and dryed my hair -I even got some styling in. Proper application of some makeup, a balanced breakfast including multivitamin and the recommended 2 glasses of water all while listening to some great music. I feel like a million bucks. I am definitely going to do some schedule rearranging and see if I can make this a regular thing. Now if only I can get caught up enough to start studying for these finals.. 23 more days until home!!!

It appears I am on a roll..
Forgot how therapeutic this thing is lol. Happy Saturday! Slept in and it was lovely. Last night I went to the first vet party in 2 terms. It was really really fun. Only 2$ entrance, the music was amazing.. I had all my drinks paid for and knew about 2/3 of the people there.. just enough to know people and yet still be able to meet new people. Best of all it was capped at 2a.m. so just enough party to leave you wanting more. I remember now why I partied so much more in my first couple terms down here -it's such an unbelievable outlet to get out any frusteration. I"m in a great place this morning and ready to get stuff done!
Alright.. time to actually do that now.. yumm gonna grab some instant coffee first..

    bored..
and it's Friday how brutal is that? I have come to the conclusion that it is impossible to just pick up from rigorous academic ness and launch into social party mode in just one afternoon. I felt like going to the beach but because everyone was apathetic after class settled for a nap and am now trying to decide how much study/ how much fun to have this weekend. I am sooo over school at the moment I don't feel like doing anything related to it. If I could I would fly home and pretend this term is over. Still like 2 years of this.. really?
It seems like everyone is getting married and buying houses and I'm stuck in this perpetual undergrad feeling. Probably the fact that I still live in a dorm and live and breathe school doesn't help.
Cross your fingers that this weekend picks up!! I really don't feel like reading neuro non stop as is currently planned :?

    another thursday night...
Thursday night and doing the usual.. studying in the vet lecture hall. Actually it's been anything but a usual night. Made dinner at home and was just packing up to come here when one of the residents of my building started seizuring. Had to phone the nurse on call and walk her to the clinic, poor thing. I would be really scared to start having those down here -definitely not the same quality of diagnostic ability down here.
I have been procrastinating like crazy. I suspect it's a function of still being burned out by midterms -hopefully I will get over it soon when we have quizzes start up again next week. On a bright note it is Grenadian Thanksgiving on Monday so we have a lovely 3 day weekend, I'm supposed to be going to the beach to play volleyball tomorrow afternoon with some classmates and my car is finally fixed and working!
SOO much to be thankful for :)

    Time for another yearly update...
Or so it seems... I'm the worst at posting on this although I guiltily admit to keeping track of what you guys are up to on here.
Sooo.. what is new? Hmm... Still in Grenada West Indies.. Just finished what has been THE most grueling set of midterms yet. There were 7 exams over 2 weeks all cumulative for the entire term -pretty gross stuff. Now that they're over this past weekend has been amazing. It's so nice to have a chance to breathe and reclaim my life. Once this term is over I've only got one more year on my little Caribean island. This hasn't really hit yet. I'm going to have to start taking more advantage of living here I think, although I have to admit being closer to home will be a nice treat. For the record Thanksgiving weekend away from home is getting really tough. I don't think I've been as homesick as I was this past weekend. And that's even having a boyfriend here!
I am really lucky to have Skype though, my almost 80 grandparents were on this morning and made my morning talking to them. I swear they're almost more technologically advanced then me -pretty cool stuff!

As for relationship gossip.. lol things are still going really well with Roy. He's such a sweety and takes really good care of me especially when I'm a stressball engulfed in school. It's going to be my turn to be support crew as he's got exams in the next week and a half. His parents came down 3 weeks ago. It was really fun to spend some time getting to know them better outside of Houston in a completely new place. I was absolutely spoiled rotten, they took us out for dinner every night and even arranged a sunset cruise to take a peek at the island from the water.

In other news I'm trying to finally get to know my classmates a bit better, now that they have all the drama out of their systems and I know how to handle myself to get through classes I think it's time to make an effort to be a bit more social. First order of business though is going to be getting to the beach this week!!

I'm starting to get the equine itch.. I've started having crazy dreams about them.. not too sure how I'm going to control this before I get back at Christmas..
Now entertain me and give me updates lol!!! Promise I'll try and do my share to entertain as well.. although my life may not be so exciting... :P
    cheers!

one more exam and then freedom! I can almost taste it :P Then bring on the beach, some sleep and packing then HOME <3 I cannot wait to see some snow, family, my dog, friends and some HORSES! LOL it's so sad, I've even been dreaming about them -definitely a sign of a deficiency. Now if only I can convince my eyes to stay propped open long enough to get this pharmacology into my brain for the next 24 hrs I'll be golden.

Home in less than a month!!
SOOo excited, less then a month until home and on the home stretch! This is my last full time week of 8-4 classes before we cut down to 2-3 a day next week and then stictly a final week after that. Wrote my bacteriology final this morning, so no more of that ick until I have to know it for the vet cert exam way down the road -whew! Glad to have that out of the way :) Now with 2 down I only have 7 more to go... Talked to my mom last night and realized just how homesick I am for Sherwood park and Edmonton. If you'd asked me when I was living at home if I would ever miss the snow and cold weather or even the colorless landscape before the snow I would have laughed. Now I am really really psyched to get cold enough weather to wear jeans comfortably and less humidity so my hair can be something other then a big poof for 5 minutes. Best of all, the easy accessibility to horses! I miss horses and the way they smell, what they sound like when they eat and watching them play. Hope everyone had a great weekend :)

    Feeling lucky today...
In the middle of midterms which amazingly spans over three weeks for me this term. It's a first in contrast to my usual week with 3 midterms I have 3 weeks of midterms, 7 2-3 hr midterms, 3 lab exams and classes at the same time. I'm anticipating less sleep more caffeine (ugh gross gonna have to break out the red bull again) and lots of used up pens and pencils:P But all in all, I feel really lucky today. I made a new friend about a month ago from the Philippines. This morning when I checked my Facebook I saw a link on her page to the effects of the latest typhoon and that another one is supposed to hit on Saturday. As much as we complain about Alberta, at least we do not get typhoons and I'm so lucky right now that during my exam week I have such frivolous things to worry about as a grade on a test and not the well being of my family and home. Sending thoughts and prayers to the Philippines, I hope the next Typhoon diverts away and doesn't hit and I hope that the recovery is speedy...

    I'm Baaccccckk!
Thought I'd forgotten about this site huh? well I kinda did but I am finding it is a necessary and healthy thing to put your thoughts down on paper and facebook is a little too social to do so. It's been really weird trying to balance technology down here between skype and facebook.. it's pretty easy to have zero privacy but at the same time I want to share things with close friends. Anyway.. on to bigger and better posts -missed you guys!

    hatred
I HATE ex boyfriends and all the bullshit baggage they bring with them. Why are they morons? Why do they throw away a perfectly good friendship to pursue a relationship with someone you thought was one of your best friends without bothering to tell you?!? couldn't he have waited until i've left for school... no more drama...

so, this will be my last LJ entry for awhile (not that I've been posting regularly) it is simply too hard to keep up with all of my internet commitments;) -this does not mean I won't be checking to see what others write... With facebook, LJ, a blog, and several new email addresses to attend to, I have decided to put all of my effort into facebook and continue to write in my new blog -the addy I promised: http://katsgu.blogspot.com The purpose of this is so that whomever would like to can follow all my adventures (good and bad I forecast) and hopefully some pictures if I can learn to use my new camera. Email addresses that can be used include kf_132@hotmail.com (this is the old one, I'll still be using this primarily and you should all have it already) flesher@ualberta.ca (this one is being phased out slowly) and most recently FLEKAT@sgu.edu.. lastly, katie.flesher@gmail.com is in use (not checked as often, I have this solely to use ichat but if you send to this I should get it eventually. Also, for those who have webcams I have skype and ichat. I also have msn for those w/o webcams.. Long of the short =please keep in touch:) Can't wait to hear from you and good luck with all of your first classes tomorrow. I'll miss you guys...

what a busy past week and weekend. Spent wed working at the mini farm (I put in 12 hrs cause I took Thurs off to catch up on some appointments) Thurs I ran errands all day (vet appoint for the cat, vaccine study appoint and chiro appoint plus some quality time with my mom which was really nice. Friday we packed up all the show stuff for Olds and left showed all weekend and got back late last night. The ponies did really well although we have decided to concentrate more on the driving rather than the halter classes. This is fine by me as I prefer those a million times more. I'm at work today and tonight I promised Gromit a walk (and I have to mow the lawn -eww!) Hope eveyone had a great weekend

    update
haha, normally I begin these entries with "sorry I haven't posted in a long time, life has been so busy.." or something similar.. today I am not gonna write that because it is summer and therefore I have no excuse. Really not a lot has changed too much since school ended and I started my summer jobs. I work monday and tuesday at my dad's plant as a HACCP facilitator (did I tell you guys this already -apologies if this was in the last entry oh so long ago:) ) and wed to friday at Peter and Terry's mini farm. I love my jobs!! It is just the right balance of office work/field work and makes me even more convinced that the vet profession is right for me because there will be a nice mix of both.
As for school stuff, it's nice to not have homework anymore but lately I may as well have. First of all I had to write my GRE or graduate record exam. It was pretty intense studying for that and took up all my weekends and evenings for at least a couple of weeks. Now I am working on application material for Grenada. The hope is that I will get in for the January class:) So..l have to write three more essays, fill out a form, gather up some references and than fire it off and I will be able to relax a bit more.
I had a really nice day yesterday with Anna at the mini farm, it was really awesome to introduce her to all of the horses and Peter adn Terry. I had to laugh because peter always jokes around and says that I have really neat friends but hey "I guess you're ok too!" haha, and to think the other day he called me "Konan the barbarian" under the pretense that I was strong but long story..lol.. It was really nice to see Anna again, we figured out that it has been at least a decade that we've known each other (scary -prooves that I am old ;) ) and it's always a treat to catch up with someone you know really well because you can just be so relaxed. Most exciting is that Anna might come and take pictures at the mini shows this summer -it's gonna be a blast expecially the one in Armstrong.
Melissa's ferrets both passed away this last week and a half form a viral infection, sympathies to her ;( it's always so hard to loose our furries.
I have decided to start up ye old exercise/diet program again.. Anna, my god.. that pict of me driving yesterday -i looked enormous!! haha, everyone needs a wake up call...
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer:)

Long time since I have been near a computer with enough time to post anything... School got insane towards the end with finals and projects and it kept me hopping all the way until the 24th. Sooo exciting that I have finally completed my third year of university!! only like a ton more to go, but hopefully the worst is now over. This past semester gave me quite a bit of trouble with biochem and chemistry taking up the majority of my time. I was also taking animal health, animal physiology and animal reproduction which had a three hour essay final so my course load was almost the heaviest it has been yet. So all my vet prereqs are officially finished... now I only have to write my GRE exam and write up some applications.. then I will have to play the waiting game and hope that everything falls into place. I am thinking I will apply to 5 or 6 universities in the states and see if any of those work out, and see how I placed in the pool of applicants to saskatoon. It will be very interesting to see where I end up, could be as far away as Grenada:)
My minis are doing really well and I love having more time to spend with them. I started work at the mini farm the wednesday after my exams were finished so haven't really had much down time up until sunday. There are two brand new babies at the mini farm which is super fun -there is nothing cuter!! So besides spending three days a week working there with my friend Melissa (a friend from school in most of my classes) I am workign mon/tues and dads plant developing a HACCP plan. Melissa is workign there with me too so it has been super fun so far and I am excited to finally pay off Cricket's debt (so close!!) and work on getting my finances back in order. I am also loving the whole having a car again. It is sooo nice to just have the freedom to go where you want when you want. Oh yes, last piece of new news, I got clip in hair extensions! pretty excited about that... so yeah, hope to hear from all of you soon...

    update
So it has been a really long time.. Life has been happening.. don't know where to begin. So I guess since the last time I have updated, I have a partly new computer. During the most hectic week of school so far when I had a very large research paper due, my hard drive on my lap top died. After a large to do of transferring files and taking the computer to a repair shop and spending lots of money I am back online. The repair shop gave me the old hard drive to keep and she cheerfully told me that she keeps all of her old ones on her christmas tree as ornaments -eek.. I hope I am never that big of a computer geek. After that, I went for a weekend with my parents to saskatoon university's open house. It was kinda neat, I had never been to saskatchewan before and the people at the college seemed really nice. We stayed in a pretty sweet hotel and one of my school friends came down with her husband and I got to meet all of her Saskatoon friends. We went out to this really cool/funky pub on the saturday night, wish we had one like it here, it was absolutely tiny but had a really neat atmosphere. I am soo excited for school to be finished. My Chem and Biochem classes are taking their toll on my sanity and it will be nice to wrap those up. On the other hand, it is really overwhelming how much I still have to finish up. Lots and lots of studying to do. Actually, I was quite proud of myself on Friday because I managed to go to school and get quite a bit of studying done. So lastly, my biggest news: I bought a new car. It's a 1999 silver volkswagen beetle and I LOVE IT!! it has a sunroof, and heated seats:) so now I am really broke, I signed my sole to the bank and I will be on the hunt for several summer jobs -but it is sooo worth it to have my own car again -freedom to go where I want when I want and less hastle with regards to figuring out transportation everyday with the fam. Mom got a car too, so now we don't have 4 people sharing one car and everyone is a lot happier.
Happy easter everyone, I am gonna go to bed. Hope you all had a great weekend:)
